HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Women In Government Foundation, Inc. was started in 1988 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nationwide organization to serve women state legislators and to provide leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex policy issues; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government began and continues to work in a non-partisan manner to serve all women legislators; and

WHEREAS, In 1998, there were 1,176 women serving in their state legislatures, making up only 15.8% of state legislators; today, there are 1,788 women legislators, making up 24.2% of state legislators; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government has served thousands of bold and passionate legislative leaders in all 50 states; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government leads the nation with a bold, courageous, and passionate vision that empowers and mobilizes all women legislators to effect sound policy; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government has worked extensively to advance policy for improvements at the local, state, and national levels; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government provides a neutral platform for bringing women policymakers together to share information and seek solutions to timely issues; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government holds over 20 educational conferences a year on a myriad of public policy issues for women state legislators; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government's website hosts several Policy Resource Centers that address childhood obesity, care coordination, public health, pulmonary hypertension, biomedical policy, oncology, diabetes, economic security and opportunities, and autoimmune diseases; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government has been recognized and received numerous accolades for policy work in health care, energy, family and child welfare, public health, and education; and

WHEREAS, Women In Government will continue to assist and educate women leaders on current policy issues through nationwide conferences, workshops, summits, public service announcements, toolkits, policy resource centers, and other resources; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Women In Government Foundation, Inc. and their current 1,788 women state legislative members on their outstanding work to promote policy education across the nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Women In Government Foundation, Inc.
