HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor Reverend Archibald Mosley
4on his life's accomplishments; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend Mosley was born and raised in Carbondale;
6he attended Attucks High School and was planning on attending
7Southern Illinois University upon graduation, before being
8selected for the Marines; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Reverend Mosley was one of the first African
10Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps during
11World War II; he, along with 20,000 other African American
12Marines, was trained in segregated facilities at Montford
13Point, North Carolina from 1942 to 1949 after President
14Franklin D. Roosevelt ended the Marine Corps status as a
15white-only branch of the armed forces; he served on the front
16lines during the invasion of the Japanese island of Iwo Jima
17and, with his fellow Montford Point Marines, was tasked with
18the clean-up at Sasebo and Nagasaki after the dropping of the
19atomic bomb; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Following his time in the military, Reverend
21Mosley attended Southern Illinois University and earned 5
22college degrees - 2 bachelor's degrees and 2 master's degrees

1in science and theology, and a PhD in communications; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Reverend Mosley realized his dream of becoming a
3minister and had a second successful career as a Professor and
4Dean at Shaw College in Detroit, Michigan; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend Mosley and his wife raised 4 daughters
6together; he makes his home in Pontiac, Michigan; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we honor Reverend Archibald Mosley on his life's
11accomplishments, and wish him the best in all his future
12endeavors; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Reverend Mosley as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
