HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Frances (nee Silvers) Kennedy of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was born on September 12, 1921 in Nashville, Tennessee to LeRoy A. and Mary Silvers; she graduated from Pearl High School in 1940, where she was chosen as Miss Pearl High; she studied Business and Real Estate Law at Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College (now Tennessee State University) and Northwestern University in Chicago; she married Reverend Walter E. Kennedy in June of 1946; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy had a diverse career in real estate and various product and service-related businesses; she was the first woman supervisor for the Chicago Federation of Musicians Employers Welfare Fund; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was active in her church; she was a member of the Steward Board, the Altar Guild, and the Women's Christian Fellowship of the Progressive Community Center, the Peoples Church; she later became the President of the 1st Pastor's Concerns Council and a member of the Mother's Board at Greater Zion Temple Missionary Baptist Church; she was also active as a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Greenview Park Community Council, Progressive Day Care, and numerous other civic and social organizations; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; and her siblings, Jessie Silvers and William Pillow; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy is survived by her son, Leroy E. Kennedy; her grandchildren, Ryan, Jasmine, Pamela, Gaines (Skipper), Karl, Michelle, Deborah, and Dorothy; her great-grandchildren; her nieces, Barbara and Delores; her in-laws, Pamela and Dorothy; and her nephews, cousins, and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Frances Kennedy, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frances Kennedy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
