HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Frances
4(nee Silvers) Kennedy of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was born on September 12, 1921 in
6Nashville, Tennessee to LeRoy A. and Mary Silvers; she
7graduated from Pearl High School in 1940, where she was chosen
8as Miss Pearl High; she studied Business and Real Estate Law at
9Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College (now
10Tennessee State University) and Northwestern University in
11Chicago; she married Reverend Walter E. Kennedy in June of
121946; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy had a diverse career in real
14estate and various product and service-related businesses; she
15was the first woman supervisor for the Chicago Federation of
16Musicians Employers Welfare Fund; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was active in her church; she was
18a member of the Steward Board, the Altar Guild, and the Women's
19Christian Fellowship of the Progressive Community Center, the
20Peoples Church; she later became the President of the 1st
21Pastor's Concerns Council and a member of the Mother's Board at
22Greater Zion Temple Missionary Baptist Church; she was also

1active as a member of the National Association for the
2Advancement of Colored People, the Greenview Park Community
3Council, Progressive Day Care, and numerous other civic and
4social organizations; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy was preceded in death by her
6husband, Walter; her parents; and her siblings, Jessie Silvers
7and William Pillow; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Frances Kennedy is survived by her son, Leroy E.
9Kennedy; her grandchildren, Ryan, Jasmine, Pamela, Gaines
10(Skipper), Karl, Michelle, Deborah, and Dorothy; her
11great-grandchildren; her nieces, Barbara and Delores; her
12in-laws, Pamela and Dorothy; and her nephews, cousins, and dear
13friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Frances Kennedy, and extend our sincere
17condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18her; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Frances Kennedy as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
