HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize Ronald Reagan's
4Boyhood Home and Visitor Center on the occasion of the 30th
5anniversary of it being placed on the National Register of
6Historic Places; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's boyhood home is located at 816
8Hannepin Avenue in Dixon; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The house, which included the barn out back, was
10built in 1891 for $1,500 by William C. Thompson; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Reagan family moved into the home on December
126th, 1920, just before Ronald's 10th birthday; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Reagans rented the home for $15 a month until
141923, after which they moved into other homes in Dixon; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Reagans rented every home they lived in until
16Ronald bought them their first house in California; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's boyhood home was added to the
18National Register of Historic Places on his 73rd birthday,
19February 6, 1984; and

1    WHEREAS, The home has been fully restored with furnishings
2reflective of the 1920s; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Visitors who tour Ronald Reagan's home can see the
4room that he shared with his brother Neil, visit the barn that
5houses a Model T automobile similar to the one the Reagan
6family owned, and view rooms of photos, videos, quotes, and
7other information in the Reagan legacy timeline; they can hear
8stories about the home and the Reagan family from the
9informative volunteer tour guides; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Visitors can also have their photo taken next to a
11life-size statue of Ronald Reagan in the Reagan Memorial Park
12nearby; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's boyhood home is a main attraction
14off highway I-88 for visitors and locals alike; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The home offers supplemental education for
16schools when learning about United States history; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The dedicated volunteers strive to provide
18memorable experiences for new and returning visitors alike;

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we recognize Ronald Reagan's Boyhood Home and Visitor Center on
4the 30th anniversary of it being placed on the National
5Register of Historic Places; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the volunteers, staff, and board of directors of
8Ronald Reagan's Boyhood Home and Visitor Center.
