HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Children and teens who have had a loved one pass away often feel alone in their grief, as if no one understands what they are going through; experiencing a death can be overwhelming for anyone, but it is especially difficult for those so young; and

WHEREAS, Grieving children need support, and the first step in that support is for those around them to become more aware of what they are going through; and

WHEREAS, Children's Grief Awareness Day is designed to help people become more aware of the needs of grieving children and the benefits that they can obtain through the support of others; and

WHEREAS, Observed on the third Thursday of every November (one week before the United States holiday of Thanksgiving), Children's Grief Awareness Day is intentionally set during the holiday season, often a particularly difficult time for those grieving the loss of a loved one; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, Children's Grief Awareness Day is November 20; and

WHEREAS, Children's Grief Awareness Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the painful impact that the death of a loved one has in the life of a child; it is an opportunity for people to recognize and support the millions of grieving children across the nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 2014 Children's Grief Awareness Day and urge those in the various communities throughout Illinois to use this occasion as an opportunity to make sure that grieving children receive the support they need; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Highmark Caring Foundation as an expression of our esteem and respect.
