HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Exercise and physical activity can not only add
3years to one's total life, but increase the number of years
4that the person is healthy; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Physical therapists are experts in knowing how the
6body works and are able to design personalized treatment plans
7to reduce the risk of injury, whether in everyday activities or
8sports; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Active lifestyles and preventive medicine are
10integral parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care
11Act; and
 
12    WHEREAS, There is a rising demand for such services;
13employment of physical therapists is expected to grow by 39% in
14the next 10 years, resulting in the need for over 70,000 more
15physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to
16provide care; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Young adults are seeking opportunities to explore
18careers in a growing health care profession; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we designate the second week of October in 2014 as a Shadow
2Week for High School Students that are interested in learning
3about a career in physical therapy; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we support the events coordinated by the
5Illinois Physical Therapy Association working with secondary
6school systems and local clinics that give students the
7opportunity to observe in physical therapy practices
8throughout the State; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be made
10available to secondary school superintendents, principals, and
11guidance counselors throughout the State of Illinois.
