HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jossie
4Pearl Johnson Wilson, who passed away on March 10, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was born on August 24, 1947
6in Lambert, Mississippi; her parents were Osa and Marie (nee
7Stewart) Jones; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After completing her early primary education in
9Lambert, Mississippi, Jossie Johnson Wilson moved to Robbins in
101961 to live with her aunt, Bernice Barnes, who raised her as
11one of her own; she subsequently graduated from Dwight
12Eisenhower High School in 1965 and matriculated at the Worsham
13School of Mortuary Science before earning her Bachelor of Arts
14Degree at Governor's State University; she was inducted into
15the National Honor Society while in high school and was honored
16by Who's Who Among American Students in American Colleges and
17Universities for her scholastic ability and campus leadership;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 1971, Jossie Johnson Wilson joined the United
20States Postal Service as a Mail Handler at the Chicago Bulk
21Mail Center in Forest Park; she was subsequently promoted to
22the position of Clerk at the Postal Facility in Bedford Park

1before returning to Forest Park, where she served as the
2accounting clerk for 5 years; from 1979 to 1986, she served the
3Postal Service as the Supervisor of Mails in Forest Park; she
4was later promoted to various leadership positions within the
5Postal Service, including Material Management Specialist,
6Labor Relations Assistant, and Manager of Mail Processing; in
71993, she returned to her beloved Village of Robbins as
8Postmaster, where she spent the last decade of her 32-year
9career with the United States Postal Service; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was a faithful member of New
11Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for almost 4 decades; she
12served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Willing Workers,
13and Sunday school teacher; after retiring to Jacksonville,
14Florida, she continued in fellowship and service to her God at
15the Philip R. Cousins African Methodist Episcopal Church, where
16she was pastored by the Rev. Eugene E. Moseley, Jr.; while
17there, she grew increasingly active as a member of the Senior
18Choir and as a leader in the Women's Ministry; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was preceded in death by her
20daughter, Tanya Johnson Neal; her granddaughter, Jasmyne
21Shepard; and her sisters, Marie Jelks and Eunice Jones; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson is survived by her husband,
23Samuel Wilson; her daughter, Yolanda Shepard (Jeffery, Sr.);

1her sons, Kenneth Allen Johnson, Jr. (Kim) and Titus Johnson;
2her grandchildren, Jeffery Shepard, Jr., Derrick, Derion, and
3Deondre Watts, Joshua and Joi Johnson, Tierra Neal, Tanya
4Johnson, and Mariah Johnson; her former spouse, Kenneth A.
5Johnson, Sr.; her siblings, Mary Alice (Jones) Wimberly,
6Ophelia Davis (Fred), Bernice Warren (Robert), Buelah Howard,
7Hoover Darden (Dorinda), Herbert Darden, Ella Holt (Tony),
8Jacqueline Cunningham (Travis), Charles Darden (Paula),
9Terrell Darden, Cornell Darden (Maria), Theodore Darden
10(Stacie), Kevin Darden, and Keith Darden; her father, Osa
11Jones; and her paternal siblings, Lacey Riley, Ellen Jones,
12Linda Jones, Joyce Jones, Osa Jones, Jr., Edward Jones, Tony
13Jones, Donnell Jones, Cynthia Jones, and Tomeka Jones;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
18Jossie Pearl Johnson Wilson; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jossie Johnson Wilson as an
21expression of our sympathy.
