SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is important to recognize those who contributed
3to the betterment of the State of Illinois through public
4service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
6Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
7lives in the service of the State; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
9learn of the death of Casey J. Kohlmeier of Pontiac, who passed
10away on October 30, 2013; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was born in Fairbury on June 5,
121984 to Jeff and Keri Kohlmeier; he graduated from Pontiac
13Township High School in 2002 and earned his Bachelors Degree in
14Technical Management from DeVry University; he served his
15country in the United States Air Force from 2002 to 2006,
16receiving the Distinguished Graduate Award during technical
17school at Lackland Air Force Base; he then served at Offut Air
18Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska; he was awarded the Air Force
19Commendation Medal, the Air Force Training Ribbon, the National
20Defense Service Medal, the Air Force BMT Honor Graduate Ribbon,
21the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with device, the NCO
22Professional Military Education Ribbon, the Air Force Good

1Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, and the Global War
2on Terrorism Service Medal; he was named Airman of the Year in
32005; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier worked for the Pontiac Police
5Department K9-Unit since January 2007; he received his training
6certificate as a detective on the Livingston County Proactive
7Unit; his K-9 patrol partner, Draco, who was his beloved
8sidekick, was with him until the end; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was a board member of the Boys and
10Girls Clubs of Livingston County and the Illinois Police
11Benevolent and Protective Association; he was a member of
12Saunemin Methodist Church; he earned his pilots license in the
13past year; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was preceded in death by his
15grandmother, Joan Gamble; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier is survived by his father, Jeff
17(Tracey) Kohlmeier; his mother, Keri (Donny) Schmidt; his
18step-father, Kyle Kociss; his maternal grandparents, Jim and
19Kay Horrie; Lynne and James Kociss, Larry and Linda Schmidt,
20and Ina Tjelle; his paternal grandparents, Eldon "Bud" and
21Karen Kohlmeier, and Alvin Gamble; his girlfriend, Leslie
22Alappattu; his brothers, Zach Kohlmeier and Jordan Kociss; and

1his sisters, Lauren Kohlmeier and Ryli Schmidt; therefore, be
2it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of Interstate
655 from Exit 197 near Pontiac to Exit 202 as the Officer Casey
7J. Kohlmeier Memorial Highway; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
9is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
10State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
11giving notice of the name; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Casey Kohlmeier, the Pontiac Police
14Department, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
15Transportation.
