SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John A. Patterson of Farmington, who
4passed away on April 19, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Patterson was born in Canton on October 20,
61943, the son of Florence and Larry Horton, and Dr. John H.
7Patterson; he attended Canton schools and graduated from Normal
8Community High School; he attended Canton College and earned
9his bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois
10University (WIU) in 1965 and his master's degree in educational
11administration from WIU in 1973; he married Cynthia Hayduk on
12August 1, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Canton; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Patterson spent his career in education and
14worked at public schools in Smithfield, Cuba, Eldorado, and
15Farmington; he retired in 1994 after 21 years as an elementary
16and junior high school principal; he continued to work
17part-time with the alternative school program in the
18Fulton/Schulyer Regional Office of Education; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Patterson enjoyed traveling, golfing,
20fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family and
21friends; he belonged to many organizations including the
22Illinois and Fulton County Retired Teachers Associations, the

1Illinois Principals Association, the local, State, and
2national Parent-Teacher Association, the AARP, Farmington
3Moose Lodge #1571, the Fulton County Farm Bureau, the West
4Central Association for Supervision and Curriculum
5Development, the Farmington Rotary Club, the Farmington
6Academic Foundation Board, the Century Investment Club, and the
7Maple Lane Country Club; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Patterson was preceded in death by his
9parents, and by a brother, Chris; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Patterson is survived by his wife of 49
11years, Cynthia; 2 children, John C. (Tricia) Patterson and
12Jennifer Patterson; 4 grandchildren, Sam and Owen Patterson and
13Mia and Ava Allen; 2 sisters, Lee Ann (Jack) Bennie and Cindy
14Horton; and 5 brothers, Ben (Sandy), Joe (Beth), Jim (Barbara),
15Tom (Sharon), and Bob (Donna) Patterson; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18John A. Patterson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of John Patterson as an expression of
