SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Steven W. Shaw of Woodstock, who passed away on May 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Steven Shaw was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 14, 1938 to Willard Lee and Thelma Marie (nee Wolfe) Shaw; he attended school in Malvern, Iowa and graduated from Malvern High School in 1956; he attended the University of Iowa, the University of Kansas City, and Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Steven Shaw began working for Younkers in 1959, where he served in various capacities in Omaha, Nebraska, Sioux City, Iowa, and Des Moines, Iowa, including as Divisional Vice-President in Des Moines; he also was past-President of the Younkers 20 year club in Des Moines; he retired from Younkers and joined Iowa Realty in the Des Moines area as a residential real estate agent in 1995; in 2000, he joined H&R Block as a seasonal tax professional, working for several years until moving to Woodstock in 2011; and

WHEREAS, While residing in Sioux City, Iowa, Steven Shaw was a member of the Iowa National Guard and the Sioux City Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served a term as treasurer; while working for Younkers in Des Moines, Iowa, he was a member of the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Better Business Bureau; he was past-member of the Westside Breakfast Club and the Urbandale Little League Board of Directors; while coaching in Urbandale, he coached 2 teams that won district tournaments; and

WHEREAS, Steven Shaw was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Steven Shaw is survived by his wife, Dianne; sons, Jeffrey (Michele) Shaw and John (Kristy) Shaw; 2 grandchildren, Logan and Stefanie; mother-in-law, Virginia Rosner; and sister-in-law, Lucinda Summers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Steven W. Shaw, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steven Shaw as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
