SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Steven W. Shaw of Woodstock, who passed
4away on May 16, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steven Shaw was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October
614, 1938 to Willard Lee and Thelma Marie (nee Wolfe) Shaw; he
7attended school in Malvern, Iowa and graduated from Malvern
8High School in 1956; he attended the University of Iowa, the
9University of Kansas City, and Morningside College in Sioux
10City, Iowa; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steven Shaw began working for Younkers in 1959,
12where he served in various capacities in Omaha, Nebraska, Sioux
13City, Iowa, and Des Moines, Iowa, including as Divisional
14Vice-President in Des Moines; he also was past-President of the
15Younkers 20 year club in Des Moines; he retired from Younkers
16and joined Iowa Realty in the Des Moines area as a residential
17real estate agent in 1995; in 2000, he joined H&R Block as a
18seasonal tax professional, working for several years until
19moving to Woodstock in 2011; and
 
20    WHEREAS, While residing in Sioux City, Iowa, Steven Shaw
21was a member of the Iowa National Guard and the Sioux City
22Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served a term as

1treasurer; while working for Younkers in Des Moines, Iowa, he
2was a member of the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and a board
3member of the Better Business Bureau; he was past-member of the
4Westside Breakfast Club and the Urbandale Little League Board
5of Directors; while coaching in Urbandale, he coached 2 teams
6that won district tournaments; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Steven Shaw was preceded in death by his parents;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Steven Shaw is survived by his wife, Dianne; sons,
10Jeffrey (Michele) Shaw and John (Kristy) Shaw; 2 grandchildren,
11Logan and Stefanie; mother-in-law, Virginia Rosner; and
12sister-in-law, Lucinda Summers; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Steven W. Shaw, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Steven Shaw as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
