SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Col. James Edward Wick of Arrowsmith, who
4passed away on May 22, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Wick was born in Danvers on January 19, 1931
6to Melvin Henry and Iva Toy (nee Girdler) Wick; he married
7Lorene "Dolly" Wellenreiter on February 5, 1950 at Trinity
8Lutheran Church in Bloomington; he served in the United States
9Army and settled in Arrowsmith in 1957; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Wick worked as a farmer for much of his life;
11he served as a volunteer fireman in Arrowsmith for 42 years and
12as fire chief for 36, and had been an auctioneer since 1960;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jim Wick was a member of Witt-Webber-Carrell Post
15617 American Legion for 55 years, serving as commander for 12;
16he was a member of Arrowsmith United Methodist Church for 40
17years, Arrowsmith Township Supervisor for 28 years, a Farm
18Bureau board member for nearly 20 years, and 4-H superintendent
19and leader for many years; he also belonged to Quality Sheep
20Breeders, the Central States Threshermens Reunion, the
21American Polled Hereford Association, and the American
22Corriedale Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Wick is survived by his wife, Lorene; 3
2sisters, Irene DeVault, Jessie Grace (Larry) Fowler, and Mary
3(Gene) Walker; one brother, Melvin Wick; 2 daughters, Vickie
4(Mike) Doyle and Jeanine (Mike) Schertz; grandchildren,
5Kristin (Tyler) Welborn, Grant (Katie Turner) McConnell, Tim
6(Jamie) Schertz, and Amanda (Brandon) Clark; and his
7great-grandchildren, Addie, Isaiah, McKenzie, Clayton, and
8Ella; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Col. James Edward Wick, and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Jim Wick as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
