SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Jack" Currin of Bloomington, who
4passed away on January 15, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Currin was born on February 21, 1948, in
6Bloomington; his parents were William H. and Ione Brandt
7Currin; he married Christine A. Concklin on August 8, 1970, in
8Bloomington; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Currin was a graduate of Bloomington High
10School and Illinois State University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Currin was employed at State Farm Insurance
12Company as a commercial field underwriter for 42 years; he also
13coached boys and girls basketball and boys football for 20
14years at St. Mary's Grade School, Holy Trinity Grade School,
15and Central Catholic High School; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Currin was a member of Lakeside Country Club
17for more than 35 years and enjoyed golfing; he was an avid
18sports fan, but his heart was with Illinois State University
19athletics, for which he was a donor and multi-sport season
20ticket holder for more than 25 years; and

1    WHEREAS, John Currin was the 2012 recipient of the Joseph
2F. Warner Golden Redbird Award, the highest honor ISU Athletics
3bestows on a non-athlete; he was a 2006 Scholarship Fund board
4president and a Scholarship Fund board member for more than 15
5years, serving the last 5 years as a member of the Advisory
6Board; he was also the all-time leading volunteer fundraiser in
7program history in both money raised and in new members raised,
8as well as a participant in every Weibring/Kilborn Classic and
9Redbird Golf Classic; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Currin was preceded in death by his parents
11and his brother, Richard Currin; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Currin is survived by his wife; his
13daughters, Colleen (Jeff) Graham and Mollie (Nick) Dodd; his
14grandchildren, Olivia and Charlie Graham and Jackson, Emily,
15and Katie Dodd; his brother, Gaylen Currin; his many nieces and
16nephews; his brothers-in-law, Charles "Bud" (Ellen) Concklin
17and John (Sue) Concklin; his sister-in-law, Colleen (John)
18Crawford; and his dog, Moses; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21his family and friends, the passing of John "Jack" Currin; and
22be it further
