SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Donald McLaughlin of McHenry, who passed away on May 30, 2014; and

WHEREAS, James McLaughlin was born on September 25, 1931 in Chicago to George and Josephine (nee Pellage) McLaughlin; he was raised in Park Ridge, played on the Maine Township High School football team, and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he pledged the Sigma Chi fraternity; he served in the United States Army and married Joan Ellen on May 4, 1963 in Rockford; and

WHEREAS, James McLaughlin worked as a residential brokerage manager for Wm. L. Kunkel Realtors in Des Plaines; after retirement, he worked as a real estate sales representative for Baird & Warner in Arlington Heights until 2004; he was an associate director for the Northwest Board of Realtors, designated to the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers by the National Association of Realtors, and was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club; he achieved numerous recognitions in real estate; and

WHEREAS, James McLaughlin taught a Home Buyers Clinic at District 214 High Schools; he worked as a judge of elections and as a precinct captain, on the Arlington Heights Festival, with Meals on Wheels and the Arlington Heights Youth Center, and coached youth baseball and softball; after moving to McHenry, he served on the Board of Legend Lakes Homeowners Association; and

WHEREAS, James McLaughlin enjoyed traveling, skiing, gardening, and sailing from the Chicago Yacht Club, including several Chicago-Mackinac races; and

WHEREAS, James McLaughlin is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Michael James McLaughlin and Amy (Marty) Maciaszek; grandchildren, Carolann and Colin McLaughlin and Dillon, Margaret, Ellen, and Kira Maciaszek; brother, George J. (Tiia) McLaughlin, Jr.; sister-in-law, Nancy (Keith) Hyzer; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his Shetland sheep dog, Annie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Donald McLaughlin, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James McLaughlin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
