SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward B. Schmalzer of McHenry, who
4passed away on September 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer was born in Chicago on July 16,
61916 to John and Josephine (nee Zartler) Schmalzer; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer was employed as a traffic manager
8in the petroleum industry, and began his career with Sinclair
9Oil; he also worked for Arco, Atlantic Richfield, and
10eventually retired from British Petroleum in 1975; he often
11told others that the highlight of his career was working from
12his Atlantic Richfield office at Rockerfeller Center looking
13out over New York City; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer enjoyed being active in his
15grandchildren and great-grandchildrens' lives, often serving
16as their "taxi service" for their many activities; he loved to
17show his support by attending their school and sporting events;
18a favorite pastime throughout his life was watching sports and
19he often spoke of the thrill he experienced as a young man
20being able to play in a 1933 Junior Softball championship at
21Wrigley Field; most recently, he was a member of Shepherd of
22the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry; he was active in church

1activities throughout his lifetime, as well as the condo
2association in Crystal Lake; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer lived in New Jersey for
4approximately 15 years and then was a resident of Crystal Lake
5for over 30 years; he lived in McHenry for the past 9 years;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer was preceded in death by his
8parents; his wife, Dorothy; a sister, Lorraine Ventrelli; and 3
9brothers, John, Robert, and Julius Schmalzer; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer is survived by his daughter,
11Carol (Charles) Spinelli; 2 granddaughters, Julie (Shane
12Winters) Gehring and Nancy (Daniel) Beffa; 2
13great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Anna Gehring; and many
14nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Edward B. Schmalzer, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Edward Schmalzer as an expression of
