SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gertrude Louise Sward of Harvard, who
4passed away on August 9, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was born on July 4, 1923 in
6Rockford; her parents were Claude O. and Myrtle L. (nee Pihl)
7Pagles; she married Lawrence Henry Sward, Jr. on January 16,
81946 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harvard; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward graduated from Harvard High School
10in 1941; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a devoted farm wife and
12homemaker; she was also employed at Woodstock Manufacturing
13Corporation for 23 years and worked at J.L. Clark Manufacturing
14Company in Rockford before her marriage; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a member of Trinity Evangelical
16Lutheran Church for 76 years; she was a member of the Women of
17the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, where she served as
18treasurer; she was an associate member of the Elizabeth Circle
19and a 4-H leader; she was a member of the West Dunham
20Homemakers and the Harvard Village Quilters; she was also a
21volunteer for the Harvard Hospital Auxiliary and a member of

1the American Legion Auxiliary; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward enjoyed gardening and quilting;
3she generously shared her garden bounties and could always be
4counted on to bring food to her church; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was preceded in death by her
6husband, Henry; her son, Steven Allen Sward; her parents; and
7her brother, Orville Pagles; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward is survived by her daughters,
9Roxanne (Charles) Sundin and Jennifer (James) Mudrock; her
10grandchildren, Sharon (Joseph) Rucinski, Douglas Sundin,
11Jeffrey (Rebecca) Mudrock, Jason Mudrock, and Jana Mudrock; her
12great-grandchild, Mason Rucinski; her sisters, Jeannette
13McCullough, Hanna Brady, and Ruth (Howard) Walker; and her
14sister-in-law, Dolores Hobbs; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Gertrude Louise Sward;
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Gertrude Sward as an expression of
21our sympathy.
