SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gertrude Louise Sward of Harvard, who passed away on August 9, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was born on July 4, 1923 in Rockford; her parents were Claude O. and Myrtle L. (nee Pihl) Pagles; she married Lawrence Henry Sward, Jr. on January 16, 1946 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harvard; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward graduated from Harvard High School in 1941; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a devoted farm wife and homemaker; she was also employed at Woodstock Manufacturing Corporation for 23 years and worked at J.L. Clark Manufacturing Company in Rockford before her marriage; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for 76 years; she was a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, where she served as treasurer; she was an associate member of the Elizabeth Circle and a 4-H leader; she was a member of the West Dunham Homemakers and the Harvard Village Quilters; she was also a volunteer for the Harvard Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward enjoyed gardening and quilting; she generously shared her garden bounties and could always be counted on to bring food to her church; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her son, Steven Allen Sward; her parents; and her brother, Orville Pagles; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward is survived by her daughters, Roxanne (Charles) Sundin and Jennifer (James) Mudrock; her grandchildren, Sharon (Joseph) Rucinski, Douglas Sundin, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Mudrock, Jason Mudrock, and Jana Mudrock; her great-grandchild, Mason Rucinski; her sisters, Jeannette McCullough, Hanna Brady, and Ruth (Howard) Walker; and her sister-in-law, Dolores Hobbs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Gertrude Louise Sward; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gertrude Sward as an expression of our sympathy.
