SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Audrey Joy Smith of Mt. Vernon, who
4passed away on October 14, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was born on August 14, 1922 in
6Calhoun, Wisconsin; her parents were Walter E. and Agnes E.
7(Luhrsen) Thomas; she married Albert W. Smith on March 22, 1942
8in Des Plaines; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was raised and received her education
10in East Troy, Wisconsin, where she graduated from East Troy
11High School in 1940; she later attended Rosary College in River
12Forest for one year; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After their marriage, Audrey Smith and her husband
14moved to River Grove, where she became a homemaker and raised 5
15children; after her husband retired in 1978, the couple moved
16to Mt. Vernon, where she lived until moving to Wisconsin in
172008; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was a member of the Mt. Vernon
19Women's Club; she was also active in the River Grove Parent
20Teacher Association and was an active member at her church; and

1    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith enjoyed playing the organ,
2crocheting, traveling, gardening, and cats; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was preceded in death by her parents;
4her husband, Albert; her brothers, Glenn, Doug, Marshall, Jim,
5and Roger Thomas; and her sister, Beatrice Thomas; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Audrey Smith is survived by her children, Thomas
7"T.R." Smith (fiancee, Lynda Fernow), a farmer in Burlington
8and a member of the Kane County Board and a member of the
9Board's Agriculture Committee, Beverly (Gary) Carpenter,
10Barbara (Dix) Fulton, Judy (John) Barrett, and Richard
11(Lucille) Smith; her 10 grandchildren; her 10
12great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews, other
13relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Audrey Joy Smith; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Audrey Smith as an expression of our
20sympathy.
