SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bernard J. "Bernie" Cobb, Sr. of Naperville, who passed away on January 7, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Cobb, Sr. was born on October 10, 1941 in Chicago to Sylver and Mary Cobb; he attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary South and graduated from William R. Harper High School in Chicago in 1960; he married Carol in 1966; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Cobb, Sr. worked with the Sign & Pictorial Painters of America as a gold-leaf draftsman and began his career with H.M. Witt & Co. Signs in Chicago; during this time, he earned numerous scholarships to the Art Institute of Chicago and continued his studies at the American Academy of Art; in 1970, he began attending Leadership Techniques, Inc. sales training and began selling the Leader Tech Tiger School programs; he began selling real estate in 1972 at Naperville's Thorsen Realtors and in 1978 he joined RE/MAX of Naperville; teaming up with his wife, and later his sons, he formed "The Cobb Team-Families Helping Families" and continued as a top agent until he retired from RE/MAX in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Cobb, Sr. always had a passion for art and painting; he reignited that passion after retirement at the Palette and Chisel Art Club in Chicago, producing over 500 paintings in his home studio; he served on the club's board of directors for several years; he also enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada, vacationing out West, and viewing art galleries; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Cobb, Sr. was the beloved husband of Carol (nee Pecho) Cobb; the loving father of Bernard J. "Bernie" (Vickie) Cobb, Jr. and Christopher (Susan) Cobb; the adored grandfather of Courtney, Kyle, Carley, and Porter Cobb; the devoted son of the late Sylver and Mary Cobb; the dear brother of Judy (Bill) Desmond, Mary Ellen Cosgrove, Diane (the late Larry) Kelly, and the late David (Charlotte) Cobb; the fond brother-in-law of Marge Pecho and Victor (Pat) Pecho; and the adored uncle of many and loving owner of his dog, Thor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bernard J. "Bernie" Cobb, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernard Cobb, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
