HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are pleased to recognize St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benld on the occasion of its Centennial Jubilee; and

WHEREAS, Construction for St. Joseph Catholic Church began in April of 1915; and

WHEREAS, The first mass was celebrated by the founder of the church, Reverend John Crosson on April 14, 1916 and has continued every Sunday since; and

WHEREAS, St. Joseph Catholic Church is celebrating its Centennial Jubilee on April 9, 2016; and

WHEREAS, The milestone anniversary celebrations will begin with a Mission Week from March 13 to March 17 and include a mass, lecture, and prayer service at the parish; and

WHEREAS, The Centennial Jubilee celebration will include a Mass of Thanksgiving on April 9, 2016 that will be co-celebrated by Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield and other Diocesan priests, with a dinner and reception to follow; and

WHEREAS, St. Joseph Catholic Church is the home parish to 110 families; and

WHEREAS, The parish holds annual events such as the St. Joseph Feast Day Celebration in March, a salad luncheon in April, and a Christmas dinner in December; and

WHEREAS, Their current pastor is Reverend Michael Haag, who is also the pastor of Ss. Mary and Joseph in Carlinville and Ss. Simon and Jude in Gillespie; and

WHEREAS, Church leadership also includes their Parochial Vicar, Father Marianna Sathuluri, and Pastor Emeritus Monsignor Lawrence Auda; and

WHEREAS, St. Joseph Catholic Church continues to be a community leader; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate St. Joseph Catholic Church on their Centennial Jubilee and wish them success and prosperity in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to St. Joseph Catholic Church as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
