HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sondra Lea Hecox of St. Charles, who passed away on March 19, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was born in Clarion, Iowa to Irvin and Freda Harmon on August 28, 1936; she attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and the American Business Institute; she married Dale Hecox on June 7, 1956; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox worked for the City of Iowa City, Iowa until her husband completed his education; they then moved to Oak Park, where she worked as Director of Personnel for the Sunbeam Corporation; she kept that position until her first daughter was born, at which time she became a full-time homemaker and moved to Elmhurst; she and her family moved to St. Charles in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved the Republican Party, and she and her husband came to represent all that was best about the Grand Old Party; Senators, Congressmen, and political leaders all sought her counsel and approval; she was a tireless Republican advocate and volunteer; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was a precinct committeewoman for years in St. Charles; she walked her precinct and other precincts, making sure everyone knew about Republican candidates; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was involved in practically everything related to the Kane County Republican Party; she organized every event from the booth at the county fair to fundraising events to staffing the office; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox and her husband were awarded President George W. Bush's Crystal Award in 2004 for their volunteer efforts in Kane County; she was also voted the Kane County Republican of the Year in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox and her husband were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 from the Kane County Republican Party; she volunteered in many election campaigns on the federal, State, and county level, and her enthusiasm engaged everyone who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved gardening and landscaping; she was a member of the Pottawatomie Garden Club, participating in their shows and events; and

WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox is survived by her loving husband, Dale; her two daughters, Sharon Grether and Susan Sherman; one granddaughter; and three grandsons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Sondra Lea Hecox, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sondra Hecox as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
