HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Valerie Salmons on the occasion of her retirement after 35 years of service with the Village of Bartlett on January 31, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons joined Bartlett as the Village Administrator in 1982; during her tenure, she saw the population of Bartlett grow from 13,254 to over 42,000; its size grew from eight square miles to nearly 16; and

WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons carefully managed the growth of Bartlett by balancing residential, commercial, and industrial development; she provided a high level of service for the residents within fiscally sound, balanced budgets; and

WHEREAS, In 1990, Valerie Salmons was the first woman appointed to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board; she was reappointed by six subsequent Illinois governors and was the first woman elected to the board to serve as Chairman; and

WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons had a high level of expectations for the various departments serving Bartlett; in 1997, the Bartlett Police Department was awarded its first Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and has been re-accredited six times; and

WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons has spent 42 years in public service and is the longest-serving village administrator in the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Valerie Salmons on her retirement after 35 years of service with the Village of Bartlett, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Valerie Salmons as an expression of our esteem and respect.
