HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association; and

WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association was organized as the Home Improvement Association as part of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914; and

WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association was organized to help women with a vision of better health for their children, safer and nutritious food for their families, a kitchen sink in every home, and the instilling of leadership skills to make changes in the community and develop more self-confidence in themselves; and

WHEREAS, Over 10,000 women have participated in the Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association in the last 100 years; in 1962, the Association's name was changed to the Homeowners Extension Association; and

WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association has been connected with the University of Illinois since the beginning; in 1996, the Association's name was changed to the Home and Community Education Association; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association for their pioneering role in helping women of Illinois to be the best homemakers they can be; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association.
