1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3 pleased to recognize the Illinois Jaycees on the occasion of
4 the United States Jaycees' 100th anniversary; and

5     WHEREAS, It is the vision of the United States Jaycees to
6 be the leading global network of active young citizens; the
7 United States Jaycees' mission is to provide development
8 opportunities that empower young people to create positive
9 change; and

10     WHEREAS, State and local organizations make up what is
11 known as the United States Junior Chamber (United States
12 Jaycees) and are an affiliate organization of the Junior
13 Chamber International; and

14     WHEREAS, There are over 25,000 United States Jaycee
15 members; Jaycee chapters are located in over 100 countries; and

16     WHEREAS, Jaycees provide numerous opportunities for
17 members to grow personally and professionally through
18 organizational training programs and competitions; and

19     WHEREAS, Jaycees provide a great way to meet new people and
20 network by participating in a wide range of projects and events

1 that help all communities; and

2     WHEREAS, Henry Giessenbier founded the Jaycees in 1920 with
3 3,000 members in St. Louis, Missouri; it was Henry's vision to
4 provide young people with opportunities they may not have had
5 access to otherwise; and

6     WHEREAS, Henry Giessenbier's theory involved offering
7 leadership opportunities to young people, giving them hands-on
8 experience through serving the community; he also believed that
9 young people could change the world; and

10     WHEREAS, Even today, the members of the Jaycees live by
11 their creed: "Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life";
12 therefore, be it

13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 recognize the United States Jaycees on its 100 years of rich
16 history and wish them great success and prosperity in the
17 future; and be it further

18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the Jaycees as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
