HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Mayor Neal E. Nelson on the occasion of his retirement as the Mayor of Coal City; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson is the son of Jack and Eileen Nelson; he was born and raised in Wilmington with his sister and 2 brothers; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson married his delightful wife, Jenny Peavler, on August 13, 1983 and moved to Coal City the same year; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson is the loving and caring father of 4 daughters, Stephanie, Christina, Coley, and Dana, and the grandfather of Colton and Grayson; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his election, Mayor Nelson closely followed the growth of his community by attending Coal City Planning/Zoning and Village Board meetings for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson has served as a volunteer on the Coal City Park Board, the Coal City Promfest Committee, and Coal City School's Parent Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, After being elected to serve as Mayor of Coal City in April of 2007, Mayor Nelson began his first 4-year term in 2007; he was subsequently re-elected to a second 4-year term in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson's term saw and overcame dark moments such as a devastating tornado that struck Coal City and the surrounding area on November 17, 2013; and

WHEREAS, The proudest accomplishment of Mayor Nelson's term was the approval and construction of the $6 million storm water project, approved by the public in a referendum; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson serves as an example of hardworking, passionate, and dedicated civil service to his community and his work during his term has benefited the State as a whole; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Coal City Mayor Neal Nelson for his many years of service, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Neal Nelson as an expression of our congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
