1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
4 McCarthy of Decatur; and

5     WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy represented the Decatur area as an
6 Illinois State Representative for 22 years; and

7     WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy volunteered Decatur to receive
8 presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in the fall of 1959
9 after other Illinois cities had passed; and

10     WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served as an Illinois State
11 Senator for 16 years, beginning the year John Kennedy became
12 President; and

13     WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy worked alongside numerous
14 prominent leaders in Illinois history, including Alan Dixon,
15 Paul Simon, and Dick Durbin; therefore, be it

16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 mourn the passing of Robert McCarthy, and extend our sincere
19 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20 him; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Robert McCarthy as an expression of
3 our deepest sympathy.
