HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Jose Barrera on the
4occasion of his retirement as principal of Columbia Explorers
5Academy; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera graduated from Pulaski Elementary
7School, Tuley High School, and the School of the Art Institute
8of Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera began as a bilingual teacher at
10Robert Burns Elementary School and James Shields Elementary
11School; he then became the bilingual coordinator and later
12assistant principal of James Shields Elementary School; in
13December of 2000, he became the principal of Columbia Explorers
14Academy; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera was twice awarded the Principal
16Leadership Award from the Chicago Board of Education; he also
17received the Superior Public Service Award for the City of
18Chicago from the Chicago Board of Education; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera has exhibited his work at the Day of
20the Dead Exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art and at
21the Bare Walls Exhibit for the School of the Art Institute of

1Chicago; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera has served as police officer and a
3SWAT officer and has trained with the Cook County Sheriff's
4Police, the Chicago Police, the Illinois State Police, and the
5FBI; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jose Barrera and his wife, Evelyn, have 3
7children, Michelle (Edward) Melone, Jennifer (Mark) Madden,
8and Jose, Jr. Barrera, and 4 grandchildren, Lorenzo, Marco,
9Mikayla, and Mikenna; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Jose Barrera on his retirement as principal of
13Columbia Explorers Academy and we wish him the best in all his
14future endeavors; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to
17Jose Barrera as an expression of our esteem and respect.
