HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Edward "Ed" McElroy on the occasion of his 90th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Ed McElroy was born in Chicago on July 20, 1925 to Joseph and Elizabeth McElroy; and

WHEREAS, Ed McElroy began his career in radio broadcasting in 1946 working with former White Sox broadcaster Bob Elson; and

WHEREAS, Ed McElroy joined WJOB in Hammond, Indiana in 1947, where he did a daily one-hour sports show for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, In 1950, Ed McElroy worked with popular disc jockey Eddie Hubbard at Radio WIND; and

WHEREAS, In 1951, Ed McElroy joined WJJD, starting as a disc jockey and eventually becoming the news and sports director; and

WHEREAS, While at WJJD, Ed McElroy became the state commander for the Catholic War Veterans organization in 1961, and, in 1962, he was elected National Commander of the Catholic War Veterans organization; and

WHEREAS, Ed McElroy continued his radio career with WJJD until 1986; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Ed McElroy founded Edward F. McElroy & Associates, a public relations firm focused on representing the American Legion, the Chicago Police, and various unions and conducting campaigns for judicial candidates in Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Ed McElroy continues to work full-time and will be celebrating his birthday with his 3 children Ed, Dave, and Beth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Edward McElroy on his 90th birthday and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edward McElroy as an expression of our esteem and respect.
