HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Edward "Ed" McElroy on the
4occasion of his 90th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed McElroy was born in Chicago on July 20, 1925 to
6Joseph and Elizabeth McElroy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ed McElroy began his career in radio broadcasting
8in 1946 working with former White Sox broadcaster Bob Elson;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ed McElroy joined WJOB in Hammond, Indiana in
111947, where he did a daily one-hour sports show for 3 years;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1950, Ed McElroy worked with popular disc
14jockey Eddie Hubbard at Radio WIND; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1951, Ed McElroy joined WJJD, starting as a
16disc jockey and eventually becoming the news and sports
17director; and
 
18    WHEREAS, While at WJJD, Ed McElroy became the state
19commander for the Catholic War Veterans organization in 1961,

1and, in 1962, he was elected National Commander of the Catholic
2War Veterans organization; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ed McElroy continued his radio career with WJJD
4until 1986; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In 1986, Ed McElroy founded Edward F. McElroy &
6Associates, a public relations firm focused on representing the
7American Legion, the Chicago Police, and various unions and
8conducting campaigns for judicial candidates in Cook County;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ed McElroy continues to work full-time and will be
11celebrating his birthday with his 3 children Ed, Dave, and
12Beth; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate Edward McElroy on his 90th birthday and we wish
16him many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Edward McElroy as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
