HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On July 5, 2015, the United States women's national soccer team, Team USA, won the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup by defeating the Japanese women's national soccer team by a score of 5-2; and

WHEREAS, Team USA was led by midfielder Carli Lloyd, who scored 3 goals for her team and became the first player in the tournament's history to score 3 goals in the championship game; and

WHEREAS, With the championship victory, Team USA has now won 3 of the 7 FIFA Women's World Cups played, the most of any country; the first 2 of which occurred in the 1991 and 1999 tournaments; and

WHEREAS, The 2015 tournament, which was hosted by Canada, saw the largest number of teams ever compete in the tournament with 24 countries represented, up from 16 teams in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Team USA went undefeated in the tournament, posting a 3-win, one-draw, and zero-loss record in Group D of the tournament's group stage; and

WHEREAS, Team USA defeated Colombia 2-0 in the first round of the knockout stage and then the Chinese national team 1-0 in the quarter-finals; and

WHEREAS, In what was considered to be the actual championship game because of the quality of both teams, Team USA defeated a talented German squad 2-0 in the tournament's semi-final match; and

WHEREAS, In the championship match, Team USA, led by Carli Lloyd's 3 goal performance, easily defeated the Japanese national squad; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Jill Ellis, Assistant Coach Tony Gustavsson, Goalkeeper Coach Graeme Abel, and Fitness Coach Dawn Scott put together and led an outstanding team; and

WHEREAS, Carli Lloyd won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player and Team USA goalkeeper Hope Solo won the Golden Glove Award as the tournament's best goalkeeper; and

WHEREAS, The members of Team USA are Shannon Boxx, Morgan Brian, Lori Chalupny, Whitney Engen, Ashlyn Harris, Tobin Heath, Lauren Holiday, Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg, Ali Krieger, Sydney Leroux, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Alyssa Naeher, Kelley O'Hara, Heather O'Reilly, Christen Press, Christine Rampone, Megan Rapinoe, Amy Rodriguez, Becky Sauerbrunn, Hope Solo, and Abby Wambach; and

WHEREAS, The members Team USA serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the United States and the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the United States women's national soccer team, Team USA, on winning the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we recognize the talent and teamwork that Team USA displayed on the field, the excellence and humility they displayed off the field, the outstanding coaching staff, and the brilliant management team that crafted the 2015 women's national soccer team; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the United States Soccer Federation, to each member of Team USA's coaching and management staff, and to every player on the Team USA 2015 roster.
