HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John Kabat, Mt. Vernon Township High School (MVTHS) agriculture teacher, on receiving the National Agriculture Service Citation Award; and

WHEREAS, Only 6 people in the nation are selected for the honor each year; the award recognizes John Kabat for his work as a teacher and FFA advisor, as well as his community service and commitment to agriculture; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana with his family to accept the award at a conference for the National Association of Agriculture Educators; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat was encouraged to apply for the award by MVTHS agriculture teacher, Cherie Rogier; his application was judged in State and regional competitions before he was selected as one of this year's winners; the winners can be from a wide range of agricultural backgrounds and can come from a high school, a community college, a university, or the agriculture industry; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat is a farmer and lives in Scheller with his wife, Marcia; they have 3 children, Jacob, Erika, and Alicia; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat has taught at MVTHS since 1985 in various agriculture-related subjects, as well as cooperative education; he also taught a semester at Rend Lake College while he was getting his master's degree; and

WHEREAS, In addition, John Kabat is involved with numerous professional organizations, including the Illinois and National Corn Growers Association and the Illinois and American Soybean Association; he has also worked to promote the interests of agriculture by staying in touch with senators, representatives, and the governor; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat is the past President and past Vice-President of the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers; he also served on the Curriculum Committee at the University of Illinois and the Agriculture Leadership Board at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat also serves on the Rend Lake College Agriculture Advisory Council and the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees and had previously served on the Waltonville Community High School Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, John Kabat serves as an example of hard work, passion, and dedication; his work throughout his career has benefited many in the agriculture community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Kabat, Mt. Vernon Township High School agriculture teacher, on receiving the National Agriculture Service Citation Award and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Kabat as an expression of our congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
