SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Brian A. Knight of Ringwood, who passed away on April 9, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight was born on May 31, 1938 in North Conway, New Hampshire; his parents were Edward and Sophie Knight; he married Janice M. Miller on October 5, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight proudly served in the United States Air Force on active duty for eight years; he later joined the United States Army and attended the Sergeant Major Academy, the Drill Sergeant Academy, and served as Commandant of the Drill Sergeant Schools of the 85th Division TNG; he retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Commander Sergeant Major, after serving a total of 37 years in the service; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight earned his bachelor's degree at Plymouth State College in New Hampshire and his master's degree from National Louis University in Joliet; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight taught at Northwood Junior High School in Woodstock for 25 years; he also coached cross-country, track, and wrestling at the school; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight was a member and past Master of the St. Mark's Lodge No. 63 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; he was active in the McHenry County Historical Society and the Bartlett, New Hampshire Historical Society; he was also a member of the 10th Mountain Division Descendant's Association and held life memberships in the National Rifle Association and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Joseph Poczkalski, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Brian Knight is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice; his children, Terri Lynn Knight, Stephen (Gina) Knight, Sarah Poczkalski, and Seth Knight; his grandchildren, Ashton Adams-Knight, Tyler Wenzel, Brianna Wenzel, Joseph Poczkalski Jr., and Rachael Poczkalski; his great-granddaughter, Charlotte Barwig; his siblings, Gail (Dave Flewelling) Tunstead, Paul (Faith) Knight, and Sally Lombardo; his cousin, Anita Stanley; and many special nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Brian A. Knight; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brian Knight as an expression of our sympathy.
