SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger Wallace Spiegler of Des Plaines, who passed away on April 23, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was born to Walter and Mabel Busse Spiegler on January 3, 1924; he graduated from Maine East High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army in the 42nd Rainbow Division in France and Germany; his division liberated Munich and the Dachau concentration camp; he married Elaine Partridge in 1947 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in marketing in 1949; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler worked as manager of the men's department in Spiegler's Department Store for 40 years and later became co-owner; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was a lifelong Elk and served as Exalted Ruler of the Des Plaines Elks from 1959 to 1960; he was also a member of the Lions Club; in 1972, he was selected to be on the Board of Directors of the Des Plaines National Bank, and in 1974, he was elected as President of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler loved the game of golf and played well into his 80s; he was a loyal Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was preceded in death by his wife of almost 65 years, Elaine; his parents; his sister, Shirley Spiegler Jacobs; his brother, David; and his daughter-in-law, Debbie; and

WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler is survived by his sons, Allan (Frances) Jay Spiegler, Glenn Roger Spiegler, and Tracy Lee Spiegler; his grandchildren, Lisa, Julian (Liz), Kyle, and Susan; his great-grandchildren, La'Nyiah and Serenity; his sister-in-law, Gail Spiegler; three nephews; three nieces; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roger Wallace Spiegler, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Spiegler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
