SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Kenneth Hughes, Jr. of Waukegan,
4who passed away on October 21, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was born on November 11, 1923
6in Salem, Indiana and was a longtime resident of Waukegan; his
7parents were George K. and Luella Hughes, Sr.; and
 
8    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. served his country as a member
9of the United States Army in the Pacific during World War II;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, After returning from the Army, George Hughes, Jr.
12obtained his degree from the University of Illinois and took a
13teaching job in Muskegon, Michigan, where he met his wife of 54
14years, Adelaide E. Hughes; he retired from Waukegan School
15District #60 in 1988 after 24 years as a history teacher at the
16Waukegan High School West Campus; and
 
17    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was a member of the First
18Presbyterian Church in Waukegan; and
 
19    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was an avid gardener; he was
20also a rabid University of Illinois fan and a member of the

1Sigma Nu fraternity; and
 
2    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was preceded in death by his
3wife, Adelaide; a son, Charles Hughes; and his parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. is survived by 4 children, Jean
5Fitzpatrick, Katherine Hughes, Dorothy (Jerry) Kraus, and
6William (Ruth Buddenhagen) Hughes; 8 grandchildren,
7Christopher Hughes, Rachel Hughes, Karolena Hughes, Alexander
8Hughes, Elizabeth Schroeder, Mallory Schroeder, Adam
9Schroeder, and Eric Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of George Kenneth Hughes,
14Jr.; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of George Hughes, Jr. as an expression
17of our sympathy.
