SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George Kenneth Hughes, Jr. of Waukegan, who passed away on October 21, 2014; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was born on November 11, 1923 in Salem, Indiana and was a longtime resident of Waukegan; his parents were George K. and Luella Hughes, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. served his country as a member of the United States Army in the Pacific during World War II; and

WHEREAS, After returning from the Army, George Hughes, Jr. obtained his degree from the University of Illinois and took a teaching job in Muskegon, Michigan, where he met his wife of 54 years, Adelaide E. Hughes; he retired from Waukegan School District #60 in 1988 after 24 years as a history teacher at the Waukegan High School West Campus; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was an avid gardener; he was also a rabid University of Illinois fan and a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide; a son, Charles Hughes; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, George Hughes, Jr. is survived by 4 children, Jean Fitzpatrick, Katherine Hughes, Dorothy (Jerry) Kraus, and William (Ruth Buddenhagen) Hughes; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Rachel Hughes, Karolena Hughes, Alexander Hughes, Elizabeth Schroeder, Mallory Schroeder, Adam Schroeder, and Eric Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of George Kenneth Hughes, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Hughes, Jr. as an expression of our sympathy.
