SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard John "LJ" Marak of McHenry, who passed away on August 23, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak was born in Arlington Heights to Leonard F. and Nancy C. (Koch) Marak on May 3, 1976; he graduated from Palatine High School in 1994 and married Kimberly A. Grinnell at St. Mary's Church in Huntley on September 18, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak worked at the Palatine Police Department as a police assistant for a number of years before obtaining his Associate in Criminal Justice from Harper Community College; in 2002, he entered the police academy at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated at the top of his class; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak worked with the Huntley Police Department for 14 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak was actively involved with the Citizens Police Academy and Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak was a hunter and cherished his yellow lab, Cady; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Helen Koch, and Leonard and Anna Marak; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Marak is survived by his wife, Kim; his sons, Leonard Jeffery "Leo" Marak, Bennett Adam Marak, and Samuel Reed Marak; his parents; his sister, Darcey (Garth) Martino; his brother, Adam (Jessica) Marak; his nieces and nephews, Mia, Anna, Elise, and Brandon Martino, Tyler and Summer Marak, and Jordan Grinnell; his in-laws, Susan and Jeffery Grinnell; his brother-in-law, Kevin Grinnell; numerous aunts and uncles; many cousins; and many lifelong friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leonard John "LJ" Marak , and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leonard Marak as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
