SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

820 ILCS 320/3

Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act. Provides that "catastrophic injury" means an injury, the direct and proximate consequences of which permanently prevent an individual from performing any gainful work. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Public Safety Employee Benefits Act is amended by changing Section 3 as follows:

Sec. 3. Definition. For the purposes of this Act: ,

"Catastrophic injury" means an injury, the direct and proximate consequences of which permanently prevent an individual from performing any gainful work.

"Firefighter" the term "firefighter" includes, without limitation, a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) who is a sworn member of a public fire department.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
