SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/12-807  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-807

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that each school bus manufactured on or after the effective date of this bill and purchased for use in this State by a school district or a school bus company under contract with a school district shall be equipped with a lap belt or any other federally approved restraint system in a number sufficient to allow each passenger being transported to use a separate belt or restraint system. Effective January 1, 2019.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 12-807 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/12-807)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-807)
7    Sec. 12-807. Seat belt for driver and passengers.
8    (a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a retractable
9lap belt assembly for the driver's seat. No school bus shall be
10operated unless the driver has properly restrained himself with
11the lap belt assembly.
12    (b) Each school bus manufactured on or after the effective
13date of this amendatory Act of the 100th General Assembly and
14purchased for use in this State by a school district or a
15school bus company under contract with a school district shall
16be equipped with a lap belt or any other federally approved
17restraint system under 49 CFR 571.222 in a number sufficient to
18allow each passenger being transported to use a separate seat
19belt or restraint system.

21    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
