1     AN ACT concerning safety.

2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:

4     Section 5. The Radon Resistant Construction Act is amended
5 by changing Section 15 as follows:

7     Sec. 15. Definitions. As used in this Act, unless the
8 context requires otherwise:
9     "Active mitigation system", also known as "active soil
10 depressurization" or "ASD", means a family of radon mitigation
11 systems involving mechanically driven soil depressurization,
12 including sub-slab depressurization (SSD), drain tile
13 depressurization (DTD), block wall depressurization (BWD), and
14 sub-membrane depressurization (SMD).
15     "Agency" means the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
16     "New residential construction" means any original
17 construction of a single-family home or a dwelling containing 2
18 or fewer apartments, condominiums, or town houses.
19     "Passive new construction pipe" means a pipe installed in
20 new construction that relies solely on the convective flow of
21 air upward for soil gas depressurization and may consist of
22 multiple pipes routed through conditioned space from below the
23 foundation to above the roof.

1     "Radon" means a gaseous radioactive decay product of
2 uranium or thorium.
3     "Radon contractor" means a person licensed in accordance
4 with the Radon Industry Licensing Act to perform radon or radon
5 progeny mitigation or to perform measurements of radon or radon
6 progeny in an indoor atmosphere.
7     "Radon resistant construction" means the installation of
8 passive new construction pipe during new residential
9 construction.
10     "Residential building code" means an ordinance,
11 resolution, or law that establishes standards applicable to new
12 residential construction.
13     "Residential building contractor" means any individual,
14 corporation, or partnership that constructs new residential
15 construction.
16     ~~"Task Force on Radon-Resistant Building Codes" means the~~
17 ~~Task Force on Radon-Resistant Building Codes as authorized by~~
18 ~~the Radon Industry Licensing Act.~~
