Amends the Election Code. Provides that on the day before election day, a permanent polling place for early voting must remain open no later than 5:00 p.m. Makes conforming and other changes. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
| 4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section | 5 | | 19A-15 as follows: | 6 | | (10 ILCS 5/19A-15)
| 7 | | Sec. 19A-15. Period for early voting; hours.
| 8 | | (a) The period for early voting by personal appearance | 9 | | begins the 40th day preceding a general primary, consolidated | 10 | | primary, consolidated, or
general election and extends through | 11 | | the end of the day before election day.
| 12 | | (b) Except as otherwise provided by this Section, a | 13 | | permanent polling place for early voting must remain open | 14 | | beginning the 15th day before an election through the end of | 15 | | the 9th day before election day , a permanent polling place for | 16 | | early voting must remain open during the
hours of 8:30 a.m. to | 17 | | 4:30 p.m. , or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on weekdays . Beginning , | 18 | | except that beginning 8 days before election day through the | 19 | | end of the 2nd day before election day , a permanent polling | 20 | | place for early voting must remain open during the hours of | 21 | | 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. , or 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on weekdays, | 22 | | and
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays and holidays, and | 23 | | 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays . On the day before election |

| 1 | | day, a permanent polling place for early voting must remain | 2 | | open no later than 5:00 p.m. In ; except that, in addition to | 3 | | the hours required by this subsection, a permanent polling | 4 | | place designated by an election authority under subsections | 5 | | (c), (d), and (e) of Section 19A-10 must remain open for a | 6 | | total of at least 8 hours on any holiday during the early | 7 | | voting period and a total of at least 14 hours on the final | 8 | | weekend during the early voting period.
| 9 | | (c) Notwithstanding subsection (b), an election authority | 10 | | may close an early voting polling place if the building in | 11 | | which the polling place is located has been closed by the State | 12 | | or unit of local government in response to a severe weather | 13 | | emergency or other force majeure.
