SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 490/195 new
5 ILCS 490/196 new

    Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Provides that August 26th of each year is designated as Illinois Constitution Day, to be observed throughout the State as a day to commemorate August 26, 1818 as the day Illinois ratified its first State Constitution. Provides that December 3rd of each year is designated as Illinois Statehood Day, to be observed throughout the State as a day to commemorate December 3, 1818 as the day Illinois became the 21st State to join the Union. Provides that each year, within 10 days before Illinois Statehood Day, the Governor shall issue a proclamation announcing the recognition of Statehood Day, and designate the official events that shall be held in honor of Illinois obtaining statehood on December 3, 1818.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by
5adding Sections 195 and 196 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 490/195 new)
7    Sec. 195. Illinois Constitution Day. August 26th of each
8year is designated as Illinois Constitution Day, to be observed
9throughout the State as a day to commemorate August 26, 1818 as
10the day Illinois ratified its first State Constitution.
 
11    (5 ILCS 490/196 new)
12    Sec. 196. Illinois Statehood Day. December 3rd of each year
13is designated as Illinois Statehood Day, to be observed
14throughout the State as a day to commemorate December 3, 1818
15as the day Illinois became the 21st State to join the Union.
