SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/11-708  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-708

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island shall not pass other vehicles passing around the same rotary traffic island if the other vehicle is over 10 feet wide or more than 40 feet long. Provides that any person convicted of a violation of specified provisions shall be guilty of a petty offense.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 11-708 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/11-708)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-708)
7    Sec. 11-708. One-way roadways and rotary traffic islands.
8    (a) The Department and local authorities, with respect to
9highways under their respective jurisdictions, may designate
10any highway, roadway, part of a roadway or specific lanes upon
11which vehicular traffic shall proceed in one direction at all
12or such times as shall be indicated by official traffic control
13devices.
14    (b) Upon a roadway so designated for one-way traffic, a
15vehicle shall be driven only in the direction designated at all
16or such times as shall be indicated by official traffic control
17devices.
18    (c) A vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island must
19be driven only to the right of such island.
20    (c-5) A vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island
21shall not pass other vehicles passing around the same rotary
22traffic island if the other vehicle is over 10 feet wide or
23more than 40 feet long. Any person convicted of a violation of

1this subsection (c-5) shall be guilty of a petty offense as
2provided under Section 16-104 of this Code.
3    (d) Whenever any highway has been divided into 2 or more
4roadways by leaving an intervening space or by a physical
5barrier or a clearly indicated dividing section so constructed
6as to impede vehicular traffic, every vehicle must be driven
7only upon the right-hand roadway unless directed or permitted
8to use another roadway by official traffic-control devices or
9police officers. No vehicle may be driven over, across, or
10within any such dividing space, barrier, or section, except
11through an opening in the physical barrier, or dividing
12section, or space, or at a cross-over or intersection as
13established by public authority.
14    (e) The driver of a vehicle may turn left across a paved
15noncurbed dividing space unless prohibited by an official
16traffic-control device.
