HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have
4given their lives in the line of duty; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wilford Ray "Wil" Lewis was born in Kankakee to
6Charles and Lenora Kibler Lewis on November 19, 1947; he served
7in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1967, attaining the
8rank of sergeant E-4; he married Laurie Dugan in Aroma Park on
9May 21, 1971; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sgt. Lewis worked at Bradley Roper before joining
11the Bradley Police Department in July of 1975; he was promoted
12to the rank of sergeant and shift supervisor on January 13,
131991; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sgt. Lewis was a member of the Loyal Order of the
15Moose and the Bourbonnais Bass Anglers Club; he enjoyed bowling
16and golfing; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Sgt. Lewis gave his life in the line of duty on
18November 20, 1997 after serving 22 years with the Bradley
19Police Department; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sgt. Lewis was preceded in death by his father in

1July of 1989 and his mother on October 30, 1996; and
 
2    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Sgt. Lewis was
3survived by his wife, Laurie Dugan; his son, Preston Lewis; his
4daughters, Gina Armold and Kelly Lewis; his grandchildren,
5Lindsay, Kyle, and Amanda; his brother and sister-in-law,
6Kenneth and Becky Lewis; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
7nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
10CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Armor Road Overpass in
11the City of Bradley as the "Sgt. Wilford Ray "Wil" Lewis
12Memorial Overpass"; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
14is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
15State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
16giving notice of the name of the "Sgt. Wilford Ray "Wil" Lewis
17Memorial Overpass"; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
19presented to the Secretary of Transportation, the Mayor of the
20City of Bradley, Chief Michael T. Johnston of the Bradley
21Police Department, and the family of Sgt. Lewis.
