HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Lena Moreland on the occasion of her retirement as City Clerk for the Village of Bellwood; and

WHEREAS, Lena Moreland's office duties and responsibilities are diverse and require a considerable amount of dedication and commitment to ensure that the Village conforms to government and ethic rules and regulations and functions effectively; and

WHEREAS, Lena Moreland has worked for the Village for 35 years and has served in the capacity of Village Clerk for 16; under her leadership, access to village ordinances and other government regulations have been implemented and updated to ensure transparency; and

WHEREAS, First elected to office in 2001, Lena Moreland received the Certified Clerk designation from the Illinois Municipal Clerk's Association; she serves on the Fire and Police Pension Board and as Village Collector, Corporate Seal Keeper, Board Secretary, and Record Keeper of all official village meetings; she also coordinates two of the Village's main events, the Annual Family Day, and the Senior Valentine Ball, both of which are always huge successes; and

WHEREAS, For 13 years, Lena Moreland has served as a member of the Bellwood Neighborhood Watch Scholarship Fund Corporation and Youth Director; she has coordinated the Annual Family Day Picnic, PACE Bus Senior Services, and the Annual Youth Summer Program which provides summer employment for Bellwood youth; and

WHEREAS, Lena Moreland's dedication and love for the citizens keeps her actively involved in the community; her prime motivation for serving the community is that she believes that members of government work for the people; and

WHEREAS, Lena Moreland and her husband of 50 years, Charles, are the proud parents of two daughters, Jennifer (Robert) and Janel (Daryl); they have three grandchildren, Robert Jr., Jazmyn, and Jocelyn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Lena Moreland on her retirement as City Clerk for the Village of Bellwood, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lena Moreland as an expression of our esteem and respect.
