HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Total Living Network (TLN) on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, In 1971, Reverend Owen Carr of Stone Church was inspired to lead the creation of an on-the-air Christian television station to serve the Chicagoland community; and

WHEREAS, Five years of development work were required; Reverend Carr's inspiration would become the first Christian television station in Chicago, and the fifth Christian television station in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Carr's entry into broadcast ministry was made possible when experienced television producer Jerry Rose joined what was to become the WCFC-TV team; he would become TLN's President and would be assisted by many other Christian providers too numerous to mention here; and

WHEREAS, TLN launched from the John Hancock Center as WCFC TV-38 on May 31, 1976 with Mayor Richard J. Daley presiding as guest speaker at the McCormick Place dedication; with the acquisition of KTLN-TV of San Francisco, California, followed by the transition of many viewers to cable television and other platforms, the WCFC-TV team became the Total Living Network in 1998; over its 40 years of operation, TLN has produced original programming serving the Chicagoland faith community, and has received numerous Midwest Emmy and National Religious Broadcasters awards; and

WHEREAS, In Illinois, TLN is now an exclusive XFINITY Cable channel, covering Chicago and most of Illinois and Northwest Indiana; recently, TLN expanded to multiple digital platforms including ROKU, Amazon FireTV, AndroidTV, and its 24/7 live stream at TLN.com; and

WHEREAS, TLN is celebrating with a banquet at Lindner Conference Center at Northern Seminary in Lombard on March 10, 2017; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the TLN team for the family and ministry outreach they have built over the course of over 40 years of broadcasting excellence from the Chicago area; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we recognize the TLN team for creating "A City Without Doors"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Jerry Rose, President of the Total Living Network (TLN).
