HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On March 23, 2007, Firefighter William F. "Billy" Grant gave his life in the line of duty with the Chicago Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, William Grant joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1986 at the age of 23; and

WHEREAS, Over a 20-year career, William Grant earned the respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters and his brothers on Truck 51/Engine 84; and

WHEREAS, William Grant has been recognized for his bravery by the Chicago City Council, the Chicago Fire Department, and numerous community organizations; and

WHEREAS, William Grant holds a patent with the U.S. Patent Office for one of his lifesaving ideas; and

WHEREAS, William Grant was the beloved husband of Sharon (Nair) Grant; the devoted father of Kristin, Caroline, and Daniel; the cherished son of John F. (Ret. CFD) and Elizabeth (Faulkner) Grant; the dear son-in-law of Vel and JoAnn Nair; the loving brother of Rosemary Grant Higgins, Gayle (John) Marschinke, John (Jan), Kevin CFD (Carole), Tim (Mary), Lisa (Kevin CPD) Bahr, and Thomas Grant; the fond brother-in-law of Jim Higgins (Ret CPD Lt.); and the dearest nephew of Mary (the late Carl) Rosenbaum, Frances (Rick) Counts, and the late Cecelia Tilsey; and

WHEREAS, On Saturday, March 25, 2017, the City of Chicago will name South Hoyne Avenue at West 90th Street as "Honorary FF Billy Grant Way"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the life of Firefighter William F. "Billy" Grant; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Grant as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
