HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to memorialize the death of our friend and
4former colleague, Redd F. Griffin of Oak Park, who passed away
5on November 20, 2012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was born and raised in Oak Park; he
7earned a Bachelor of Arts from Shimer College; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a former reporter for the City
9News Bureau of Chicago and served on the production staff of
10WTTW 11; throughout his life, he helped to promote the
11understanding and appreciation of cultural history and
12communications through courses, lectures, readers theater,
13audiovisual and print media, exhibits, and the Internet; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served as a professor at Triton
15College and Hines VA Hospital; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a founding member of the Ernest
17Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park; he served as the Foundation's
18ambassador to the Chicago area, speaking at libraries,
19fellowship groups, and meetings across the suburbs; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served the people as the State

1Representative of the 21st District during the 82nd General
2Assembly; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a member of the boards and
4advisory boards with various organizations, including WTTW 11,
5the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, the International
6Press Club of Chicago, and the Illinois State Historical
7Society; he also served on the board of his alma mater, Shimer
8College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was the beloved husband of Mary Jo;
10the loving father of Daniel (Sarah) and Timothy Griffin; the
11cherished grandfather of James and Reid Griffin; and the dear
12brother of Michael C. Griffin and Marnie (Joseph) Fretty;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16remember, along with his family and friends, the passing of
17Redd F. Griffin; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Michael C. Griffin, the brother of Redd Griffin,
20as an expression of our sympathy.
