HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to remember the life of Miguel Juarez, the
4first Latino Police Chief for the City of Waukegan; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was born in Ciudad Juarez,
6Chihuahua, Mexico on July 25, 1952; one year later, his family
7immigrated to El Paso, Texas; he became a United States citizen
8and the age of 16 and served in the Marine Corps; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez become a Waukegan police officer on
10November 14, l979; he began as a patrol officer and worked with
11the SWAT team and detective bureau; he later worked as a
12supervisor and commander of the gang unit, major crimes scene
13unit, and narcotics unit; he was appointed Deputy Police Chief
14in l993 and served as Deputy Chief of Services and Deputy Chief
15of Operations for eight years; he was appointed Chief of Police
16in April of 2001; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was the Waukegan Police
18Department's first Latino Sergeant, its first Latino
19Lieutenant, its first Latino Deputy Chief, and its first Latino
20Chief of Police; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was a member of the Waukegan Unit

1School District Board of Education and a longtime member of the
2National Latino Peace Officers Association; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez passed away in March of 2003 while
4preparing for a charity boxing match that benefits the children
5of fallen police officers; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8remember the life of Miguel Juarez, and recognize the positive
9impact he had on his community; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Miguel Juarez.
