HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives would like to recognize the 10th annual Brian
4McMillen Memorial Run/Walk to support the Brian McMillen
5scholarship that provides financial support to veterans
6attending Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC); and
 
7    WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was an LLCC alumnus and Illinois
8State Trooper; he served as a Technical Sergeant in the United
9States Air National Guard and spent two years of active duty
10with the United States Air Force in Saudi Arabia and Romania;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Brian McMillen worked in the LLCC Veterans Office
13as a student; he earned his bachelor's degree from the
14University of Illinois-Springfield and was pursuing a master's
15degree when he lost his life in the line of duty on October 28,
162007; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The LLCC Veterans Club established the Brian
18McMillen Scholarship to honor his legacy and support veterans
19attending LLCC; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Through the proceeds of this event, LLCC has met
21the goal to have a self-sustaining scholarship for veterans in

1Brian McMillen's name; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Since the goal of funding the scholarship has been
3met, 2017 will be the final year of the Brian McMillen Memorial
4Run/Walk, yet the scholarship will continue to honor his legacy
5for decades to come; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8recognize the Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk and its
9commitment to honoring Brian McMillen's legacy by supporting
10veteran students at Lincoln Land Community College; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13presented to the McMillen family and the Lincoln Land Community
14College Veterans Club.
