HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives would like to recognize the 10th annual Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk to support the Brian McMillen scholarship that provides financial support to veterans attending Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC); and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was an LLCC alumnus and Illinois State Trooper; he served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air National Guard and spent two years of active duty with the United States Air Force in Saudi Arabia and Romania; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen worked in the LLCC Veterans Office as a student; he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield and was pursuing a master's degree when he lost his life in the line of duty on October 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, The LLCC Veterans Club established the Brian McMillen Scholarship to honor his legacy and support veterans attending LLCC; and

WHEREAS, Through the proceeds of this event, LLCC has met the goal to have a self-sustaining scholarship for veterans in Brian McMillen's name; and

WHEREAS, Since the goal of funding the scholarship has been met, 2017 will be the final year of the Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk, yet the scholarship will continue to honor his legacy for decades to come; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk and its commitment to honoring Brian McMillen's legacy by supporting veteran students at Lincoln Land Community College; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the McMillen family and the Lincoln Land Community College Veterans Club.
