HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Richard
4Edward Williams Sr.; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. was born in Chicago to Arthur
6L. Williams and Nellie R. Atkins on July 3, 1926; he grew up on
7the Westside of Chicago and attended Grant and Tennyson
8elementary schools and Crane High School; he served in the
9United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945; he
10was baptized in the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii in 1944; he
11returned to Chicago after the war and married Louise Ford; he
12later married Dolores Sellers in 1950; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. worked for various
14companies, including the Ford Motor Co., Western Electric, and
15the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital; he had a career of
16over 30 years as a welder at International Harvester (IH); he
17served as a United Auto Workers (UAW) union steward, shop
18committeeman, regional representative and was very active with
19the UAW Political Action Committee while at IH; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. co-owned a barbershop and was
21a independent plumbing and heating contractor on the Westside;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. enjoyed tinkering and fixing
2things, reading, collecting various objects, and spending time
3with this family; he was affectionately known as "Papa
4Richard"; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. is survived by his wife of 66
6years, Dolores; his daughter, Sheila Dorns; his sons, Tyrone
7(Janice) Williams, Rev. Richard Williams Jr. (Cassopolis
8Michigan), Kevin (Victoria) Williams, Keith (Pamela) Williams,
9and Vincent (Suzanne) Williams; 21 grandchildren; 17
10great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews and
11friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14mourn the passing of Richard Edward Williams Sr., and extend
15our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
16knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Richard Williams Sr. as an
19expression of our deepest sympathy.
