HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ken Pettijohn on his retirement from Community Action after 42 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has dedicated his life to fighting the war on poverty by creating avenues for low-income people to receive assistance on their road to self-sufficiency, and by instituting policies at Wabash Area Development, Inc. that allow the staff to better assist in achieving those goals; and

WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has been an advocate for low-income people and a voice for the voiceless; and

WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn began his career with Wabash Area Development, Inc. as a program planner in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn worked as a Juvenile Counselor, Program Manager, Associate Director of the Comprehensive Employment Training Program, and Assistant Director of the Jobs Training Program; and

WHEREAS, Under the direction of Ken Pettijohn, Wabash Area Development, Inc. formed a foundation to assist the agency to build or purchase office buildings in the organization's core service counties; this action allowed easy access to programs like LIHEAP, Weatherization, Head Start, food pantries, CSBG scholarships, rental assistance, education assistance, and many other services readily available to those individuals and families in need; and

WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has a master's degree, has received numerous distinguished awards throughout the State and within the Community Action world, and has gained the respect of his colleagues and communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ken Pettijohn on his retirement from Community Action after 42 years of service, and wish him health and happiness in his retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ken Pettijohn as an expression of our esteem and respect.
