HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Palmalea
4Rennie "Pam" Taylor, who passed away on March 13, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was born in Canton to Roy and
6Mildred Rennie in January of 1927; she graduated from Peoria
7Central High School and Northwestern University; she received
8her degree in nursing from Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's School
9of Nursing in Chicago; she married Alan M. Taylor M.D. on
10December 24, 1951; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was an operating room head nurse
12and supervisor at St. Luke's from 1948 to 1953; she worked for
13many years in the field of medicine, first as a nurse, then
14helping in her husband's practice; she became the Executive
15Director of the Lake View Memorial Hospital Foundation in 1978
16and served until 1990; she was appointed chairman of the
17Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board in 1979 and worked on
18the board until 2002; one of her proudest accomplishments was
19working with the Lakeview College of Nursing and founding the
20Lakeview College of Nursing President's Council; she received
21an honorary nursing degree from the Lakeview College of Nursing
22in 1992; and

1    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was a member of the Lt. Governor's
2Council on Rural Health Care from 1988 to 2002, the Vermilion
3County Public Health Department Board from 1980 to 2001, the
4Vermilion Area Community Health Clinic Free Clinic, the
5Illinois State Medical Society, and the Vermilion County
6Medical Society Auxiliary; she was instrumental in bringing
7Aunt Martha's Healthcare Clinic to Danville and served on their
8board of directors for many years; she was active with St.
9Elizabeth Hospital, the Lakeview Medical Center, and the
10Vermilion County Nursing Home; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor donated her time to the YWCA and
12the Girl Scouts; she served as a 4-H Leader and a Red Cross
13instructor and volunteer; she was on the Salvation Army Board
14of Directors and served as United Fund Area chairman; she also
15served on the Danville Library Foundation; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor received many awards for her work,
17including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in
18Governmental Affairs and Legislation 1960-2007 from the
19Illinois State Medical Society; she was nominated for the 1999
20Belle Chenault Award for Political Participation; she was
21recognized as a charter member of the Danville Symphony Guild;
22and
 
23    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor also volunteered at Kennekuk

1Cove, the Arts in the Park, the Palmer Center, the Balloon
2Festival, and at her church, Frist Presbyterian Church of
3Danville; she was a member of Chapter KE PEO, the Clover Club,
4and the Danville Country Club; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor enjoyed swimming, driving, golf,
6stitchery, and reading; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was preceded in death by her
8parents and her husband, Alan; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor is survived by her children,
10Elizabeth Taylor, Leslie Phillips, Sarah (Paul) Knobloch, and
11Alan (Marijane) Taylor II M.D.; her grandchildren, Alan
12(Brenna) Knobloch, Alex Knobloch, Trysten (Ryan) Jones, and
13Alan Taylor III; and her great-grandchildren, Caiden, Callen,
14and Charlotte Knobloch; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of Palmalea Rennie "Pam" Taylor, and extend
18our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
19knew and loved her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Palmalea Taylor as an expression of
