HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel J.
4Callahan, who passed away on March 27, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was born in Montgomery to Daniel
6J. Sr. and Evelyn (Yoesle) Callahan on November 24, 1934; he
7was raised in Morris and attended Immaculate Conception School
8and St. Bede Academy; he graduated from Marquette High School
9in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955,
10where he served for four years; he married JoAnn Olson on June
1128, 1958 and they began their life together in Rapid City,
12South Dakota, before returning to Morris; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan worked for the United States Army
14Corps of Engineers as Lock Master at Dresden Island Lock and
15Dam until his retirement in 1989; he achieved the position of
16Lock Master in 1971 at the age of 36, the youngest Lock Master
17to do so; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan worked for the Grundy County
19Sheriff's office, first as a road deputy; most recently, he
20worked in court security; he was one of the longest-employed
21member of the sheriff's office, serving 43 years when he
22retired in January of 2014; and

1    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan served as police commissioner of
2the City of Morris from 1998 to 2017; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was an avid fisherman; he enjoyed
4woodworking, refinishing antiques, gardening, canning, and
5making preserves; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was preceded in death by his
7parents; his sister, Margaret Jean Callahan; and his brother,
8Charles Eugene Callahan; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan is survived by his wife, JoAnn;
10his children, Karen Jean (Mike) Doughan, Kevin Michael
11(Colleen) Callahan, and Kenneth James (Pamela) Callahan; his
12granddaughters, Amy (Josh) Clark, Stephanie (Jeffrey)
13Barcelona, and Lindsey Doughan; and his great-granddaughters,
14Callahan Marie and Madeline Louise Clark; and his nephew,
15Michael Callahan; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the passing of Daniel J. Callahan, and extend our sincere
19condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20him; and be it further

3our deepest sympathy.
