HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Germantown Fire
4Department on the occasion of its 125th anniversary and
5recognize its tradition of bravery and dedication; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department was chartered on
7May 2, 1892, almost 60 years after the first settlers founded
8the town of Germantown; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The first 18 members of the department, which
10included a horse, were all volunteer and relied on a
11hand-operated pump for fighting fires; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The first motorized vehicle the department
13received was a 1919 Model-T truck which is now part of the Hall
14of Flame Fire Museum in Phoenix, Arizona; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department has always relied
16on the donations and support of the local community, holding
17fundraisers, dances, and benefit meals; and
 
18    WHEREAS, This support has allowed the Germantown Fire
19Department to maintain a modern and well equipped force that is
20often a leader in adopting new firefighting technologies; and

1    WHEREAS, These technologies have included the first fire
2department radio system in the county, the first fire
3department in the region to adopt an automated external
4defibrillator, and the first department in the county to adopt
5a "jaws of life" rescue tool; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1952, the Germantown Rural Fire Protection
7District was formed to provide a stable funding source for the
8Germantown Fire Department, though the department still relies
9on the generosity of the local community to supplement its
10funding; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In 2002, the Germantown Fire Department formed the
12Explorer Post to educate local youth about fire and rescue
13services; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Currently the Germantown Fire Department has 35
15members and six firefighting and rescue vehicles; it responds
16to 110 calls per year; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department maintains its
18125-year tradition of sacrifice, dedication, and a commitment
19to the proud citizens of Germantown; therefore, be it

1HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2congratulate the Germantown Fire Department on its 125th
3anniversary and we wish it 125 more years of continued
4operation and dedication to the local community; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the Germantown Fire Department as a symbol of our
8esteem and respect.
